Maryland concentrates around Baltimore and the Washington approaches, and the mix is unusually institutional. The Sparrows Point steel legacy and the port and rail infrastructure on the Patapsco produced heavy medium-voltage equipment that continues to surface as those sites redevelop. Federal facilities, defence contractors, and the research and hospital complexes from Johns Hopkins through the Bethesda and Rockville corridor replace essential-power systems under documented programs, which means good nameplates, real test records and equipment that prices as reusable rather than as metal. The data center corridor just over the Virginia line pulls upgrade work into this state as well. BGE and Pepco both run dense urban distribution with strict clearance procedures. The Port of Baltimore gives an export-bound lot a berth inside an hour of most of these sites.
